Dr. Musante Published in Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research

MD News

David Musante, MD, recently completed a retrospective study evaluating the fusion rate and pain levels one year after a lumbar spine surgery using a product called Trinity Evolution.  The findings were published in The Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research earlier this Spring.  Dr. Musante found that postoperative pain levels were significantly improved at 2 weeks, 3 months, and 12 months in comparison to pre-operative leg or back pain of the patients, who had all been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, radiculopathy, stenosis, and decreased disc height prior to surgery.

This study was retrospective, so it was conducted by reviewing patient charts.  There are often prospective clinical trials at Triangle Orthopaedic Associates.  For more information on Orthopaedic and Rheumatologic Clinical Trials, please visit the Clinical Research page on our website.

Dr. Musante is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, the North Carolina Spine Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, and the Durham-Orange County Medical Society.

Dr. Musante devotes his practice to the treatment of a wide range of spinal problems including degenerative cervical and lumbar disorders, disc herniation, stenosis, deformity, scoliosis, tumors, and trauma. His surgical expertise includes minimally invasive spinal surgery, motion preservation technology and artificial disc replacement.   He sees patients in Durham, Southpoint, and Raleigh.

Daily Herald Article on Concussions with Northern Carolina Orthopaedics

Sports Medicine Football Concussions Roanoke Rapids NCThe RR Daily Herald recently published an article called Changing the Culture on the way that football is changing in terms of injury prevention and concussions.  They spoke with two Sports Medicine providers at Northern Carolina Orthopaedics, a division of Triangle Orthopaedics.

John Moss, MD is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in Sports Medicine.  When it comes to concussions,  education is important, from pediatricians and parents to coaches and the athletes themselves.  ”It has to be a community-wide awareness… one child that has a fatal injury is too many.  We all have to be on the same page.”

Adrian Dunn, MA, LAT, ATC works with Roanoke Rapids High School as an athletic trainer.  He emphasizes the importance of players speaking up about how they’re feeling.

Signs and symptoms of a concussion include confusion, memory problems, headaches, blurred vision, lack of sustained attention and unusual behaviors.  While these symptoms may disappear after a week, the brain may not fully heal from the injury until a few weeks or months later.

Northern Carolina Orthopaedics provides comprehensive Orthopaedic care in Roanoke Rapids, including Orthopaedic Urgent Care.
