While the causes of foot pain and ankle pain vary, many cases can be treated without surgery. We can often manage conditions that cause swelling and pain using traditional methods such as rest, ice, orthotic braces, anti-inflammatories and cortisone injections.

IMG_9859a John Lord, DPM, is a podiatric physician specializing in problems of the foot and ankle.  Dr. Lord sees patients at Triangle Orthopaedic offices in Apex, Clayton, Durham, Southpoint, and Raleigh.  His special interests are diabetic foot problems, skin and nail disease, and Sports-related injuries.  Dr. Lord is part of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).

If extensive injury or malformation of the foot or ankle occurs, more severe surgery may be necessary. Surgery can effectively re-establish the position of bones, ligaments, tendons, and nerves.  While all of our General Orthopaedic providers have expertise in the foot and ankle, we have two surgeons who specialize in foot and ankle surgery.

Dr. Paul Kerner completed a fellowship in Foot and Ankle Reconstruction at Brown University and is part of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.  Dr. Kerner’s main interests are in Sports Medicine in addition to Reconstructive Surgery of the foot, ankle, knee, and shoulder, and he sees patients in Durham and Raleigh.

Dr. Nicholas Viens completed his fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery of the Foot and Ankle, the Steadman Clinic & Steadman Philippon Research Institute, Vail, Colorado.  He is part of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.  Dr. Viens performs surgery with open and arthroscopic techniques and is proud to offer total ankle replacement as a potential treatment option to patients.  Dr. Viens sees patients in the Chapel Hill, Durham, and Southpoint offices of Triangle Orthopaedic Associates, P.A.

Hages Kenya Post

“We are so thankful to have had the opportunity through Samaritan’s Purse to serve at Tenwek Hospital in Bomet, Kenya for two weeks this winter.  Tenwek Hospital is a 300 bed teaching hospital with the mission of providing Christ centered medical care including surgical, medical, maternity and pediatric services. It provides primary health care to 600,000 people within a 32 kilometer radius and serves as a referral center for a much larger region.  In our time at Tenwek I was able to work alongside Dr. Kiprono Koech along with orthopedic residents treating a variety of orthopedic and traumatic injuries.  My wife Penny worked with Tenwek’s Physical Therapist Solomon Rop to provide therapy to general inpatients and outpatients in a pediatric Special Needs Clinic.  We were able to faciltate the development of a special seating system for a little boy with Athetoid Cerebral Palsy who is unable to sit up independently.  Our family was also able to serve in the community by helping to mud a house for a family in need and to make a home visit to a little girl with Spina Bifida.  We are so blessed to be able to share this experience back in the United States.  It was truly a life changing one for our family.”

Dr. Hage specializes in Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine, Fracture Care, and general orthopaedics.  He is also the medical director of Triangle Orthopaedics Surgery Center (TOSC),a physician-owned surgery center for outpatient orthopaedic procedures.  Dr. Hage sees patients in the Raleigh and Apex offices of Triangle Orthopaedics.
