Dr. Phillip Shadduck is in Hawaii this week with the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. As part of their educational mission, SLS is holding the AsianAmerican MultiSpecialty Summit on Laparoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery, which includes courses led by Dr. Shadduck at Tripler Army Hospital as well as the University of Hawaii. Dr. Shadduck and other leader in minimally invasive surgery shared techniques aimed at improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Shadduck was appointed to the SLS Board of Directors in 2012, and now serves as its Vice President. He serves on the editorial board for the SLS publication Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (JSLS.) Dr. Shadduck will be traveling with SLS this year at other events as well.
Recently, Dr. Shadduck has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Chinese Journal of Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMJIS), for a four year term (2015-2018). The CJMIS is the premier minimally invasive surgery journal for general and gynecologic surgery in China. He also serves as a reviewer for Surgical Endoscopy, the Journal of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (JSLS), and the journal Hernia.
Dr. Shadduck contributes to multiple publications; he has published a number of scientific articles and book chapters and currently serves on several editorial boards in addition to JSLS: Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Surgical Endoscopy, and the journal Hernia. He also serves in leadership positions with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Shadduck has nearly 20 years experience treating illnesses in the following areas, which he treats at Triangle Orthopaedics:
• Abdominal surgery – for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, and large bowel
• Breast surgery – for benign and malignant breast disease
• Endocrine surgery – for diseases of the adrenal, parathyroid and thyroid glands
• Hernia surgery – for inguinal, femoral, ventral/incisional, diaphragmatic, and other hernias
As they share on their website, SLS is the largest Minimally Invasive or Laparoscopic Society in North America and perhaps worldwide with over 6000 active members. Many Laparoscopic and MIS specialties are represented; the main three are Surgical Endoscopy, Gyn Laparoscopy, and Endourology. SLS’ focus is multispecialty, providing a multidisciplinary education by giving a comprehensive view that is more inline with better physician orientation and patient outcome.
